Videos of great plays often get shared on social media almost as they happen during live sporting events nowadays. They often go "viral" and, in no time, everyone you know is talking about that unreal play.
One such moment, which "broke the internet," was Odell Beckham Jr.'s one-handed catch on "Sunday Night Football" against the Dallas Cowboys. The grab, which NBC’s Cris Collinsworth called "the greatest catch I've ever seen," celebrates its fifth anniversary today.
The catch skyrocketed Beckham into instant stardom. Before you knew it, the young wide receiver was in commercials, being mentioned in well-known rap songs and getting invites to some of the biggest parties in the world, where he posed for photos alongside some of the most famous people.
While Beckham has done some amazing things on the field since then, he seemingly hasn't duplicated the peak that catch created. With seasons marred by injury at the end of his road with the New York Giants and his eventual trade to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason, that catch seems like it was a lifetime ago. And for Beckham, in NFL years, it just might be.
While the wide receiver surely has the talent to pull off another amazing play like that again, it will be tough to top the lure and unexpectedness of the original. That's why we should admire and remember it for what it was – possibly the greatest catch in NFL history.
