According to Twins beat writer Betsy Helfand, it's expected that Garlick will now require surgery to repair his sports hernia. Manager Rocco Baldelli provided the update on Thursday, however, it remains unclear if Garlick will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2021 season.
The 29-year-old outfielder was an important depth piece in Minnesota's outfield to kick of the year, especially considering all of the injury troubles to Byron Buxton. Garlick's played in 36 games this season while slashing .232/.280/.465 with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs.
It's another bit of bad news for the Twins this season, who currently own just +21000 odds to win the AL Central division on FanDuel Sportsbook.
