Trevor Lawrence is a generational prospect. He's one of the most-hyped talents we've ever seen, up there with the likes of Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck and John Elway. It's not hard to see why. A 6-foot-6 QB with a rocket arm, legit speed and poise beyond his years, Lawrence looks like a sure thing.
But whether or not that ability translates right away might be a different story. He's a compelling option in fantasy football this year, but managers looking to take the plunge on the rookie would be wise to pair him with a safer, veteran option.
Trevor Lawrence Fantasy Outlook 2021
Lawrence currently carries an average draft position (ADP) of QB14, per FantasyPros. He's not being drafted as a starter, but that means he's viewed as a very high-end QB2.
He's a fair enough value at that spot, but a lot of his upside is already baked into his current draft cost. Lawrence is one of the most decorated college QBs of all time, throwing for 10,098 yards with 90 touchdowns to 17 interceptions across three seasons. He won the national championship as a true freshman and finished First- or Second-Team All-ACC every year of his career.
He's surrounded by a decent enough skill-position group, featuring DJ Chark, Marvin Jones Jr. Laviska Shenault and James Robinson. The offensive line is also fine, if a bit below average.
He's going to be starting for a team that should be trailing early and often next season. That should lead to a ton of volume for Jacksonville's prized rookie, as the Jags had the seventh-most pass attempts in the league last season.
Trevor Lawrence ADP
Selecting Lawrence is a a bet on that his talent will overcome his situation. He's a perfectly fine player to select as a low-end QB1 or high-end QB2. But there's significant risk here too, especially after watching this offense stumble through the preseason.
If you take Lawrence, be sure to pair him with a steady veteran like Matt Ryan.
