Trade Rumors Link Steelers to Defensive Star

The NFL offseason has kicked into high gear over the past week with contending teams making major moves ahead of the 2022 campaign. Many expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to be active in improving their roster after flaming out in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year.

One recent trade rumor links the Steelers to a defensive star ahead of free agency.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that Pittsburgh is among "interested" teams pursuing Philadelphia Eagles star Fletcher Cox. The defensive tackle is a target for playoff hopefuls once again after popping up in rumors before last season's trade deadline.

It's easy to see why the Steelers would pursue Cox. He's earned four All-Pro selections (three Second Team, one First Team in 2018) during his 10-year career and could immediately boost an already talented defense.

The 31-year-old also showed he has plenty left in the tank by recording 3.5 sacks, 12 QB hits, 7 tackles for loss and 2 forced fumbles during the 2021 season.

It remains to be seen if Pittsburgh can land Cox after the team failed to secure a deal with Philadelphia at last year's deadline despite talks. The Eagles will need attractive compensation to take on Cox's $40 million dead cap hit, so it depends on how much the Steelers think the DT could transform their defense.
