The tight end position is a pretty tricky one. Outside of a few elite producers at the top of the position, there just aren't that many reliable assets. That has proven more true than ever this season. Fantasy's second-best TE in standard-scoring formats, Jonnu Smith, has scored just 81.9 points on the year. That would make him the WR30 in 2020.

Meanwhile, last year's TE2, Mark Andrews, would've ranked as the WR22 in 2019.

With the position producing so little, fantasy managers have been forced to win on the margins, which is why streaming the position (picking up a new TE each week based on matchups) can be so crucial. Here are our top tight end streaming picks, rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues, to target in Week 12.

3. Trey Burton, Indianapolis Colts (17% Rostered)

If you're rolling with Trey Burton this week, you're basically closing your eyes and betting that he scores a touchdown. That's usually not where you want to be in fantasy, but that's the reality of the position. And in Burton's defense, he's actually been a pretty reliable bet to score. The Indianapolis Colts' tight end has scored 4 touchdowns in his last five appearances (with 2 coming as a rusher). Frank Reich clearly likes to get this guy involved around the goal line any way he can, and the 4.6 targets per game he's averaging on the year are nothing to scoff at. He's a solid TD-dependent option against a Tennessee Titans' defense that gives up a lot of them.

2. Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (21% Rostered)

Believe it or not, Dalton Schultz is fantasy's TE11 in PPR formats this year. That's a credit to Schultz, but it's also a reminder that the position has been terrible. Still, Schultz is only rostered in 21% of Yahoo! leagues because a lot of people dropped him with the injuries to Dak Prescott, and more recently Andy Dalton. But the tight end showed some real promise in Dalton's first game back. He saw 6 targets, tying him for the second most on the team, and he caught 4 which he turned into 25 yards and a TD. If the Red Rifle is really going to make this offense competent again, Schultz isn't rostered in nearly enough leagues right now.

1. Robert Tonyan, Green Bay Packers (46% Rostered)

Speaking of tight ends who should be rostered in more leagues, Robert Tonyan is currently the TE6 in PPR formats. Since a goose egg in Week 1, Aaron Rodgers' top tight end has put up double-digit fantasy points in five of his last nine outings. Considering the state the position is in right now, that's pretty much the best you can reasonably hope for. Tonyan also draws what appears to be a difficult matchup against the Bears in Week 12, but Chicago actually surrenders top-eight PPR production to opposing tight ends. He should be a really reliable option for Rodgers, who looks poised for a huge game in Week 12.
