Few defenses are true every-week starting options in fantasy football . That's why "streaming" the defense position, picking defenses off the waiver wire as needed every week, can be such a useful strategy.

These three defenses, rostered in 50 percent or less of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues, are the top waiver wire streaming options in Week 3.

3. Los Angeles Chargers (vs Carolina Panthers)

The Los Angeles Chargers defense has shown a ton of promise early this season. They held the elite Kansas City chiefs defense to just 20 points in regulation in Week 2, and Patrick Mahomes' 57.5 percent completion percentage was a bottom-10 single-game mark for his entire career. The Carolina Panthers offense has shown some promise, but they're nowhere near as dangerous as KC, and the Chargers' D could be in for a strong week.

2. Cleveland Browns (vs Washington Football Team)

The Washington Football team has allowed a sack on 9.9 percent of their passing plays so far in 2020. That's already the third highest mark in the NFL, and now they'll be without Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff. The Cleveland Browns have recorded a pressure (sack, hurry or knockdown) on 28.6 percent of opposing drop backs (No. 6 in the NFL), and as 7-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook, the game flow should give the Browns plenty of opportunities to get to Dwayne Haskins.

1. Indianapolis Colts (vs New York Jets)

The No. 1 defense in our Week 3 fantasy football rankings, the Indianapolis Colts check in as huge 10.5-point favorites against the New York Jets, whose 16.5-point implied total is by far the lowest for any team this week. Sam Darnold has been terrible this year (No. 27 in adjusted net yards per pass attempt), and he's not likely to bounce back against a Colts defense that has the league's No. 5 pressure rate while allowing the NFL's fewest yards per play (4.4).
