The kicker position is rarely more than an afterthought in fantasy football. Usually dismissed as an unfortunate necessity, many players simply draft their kicker and leave them plugged in as their starter until a bye week ultimately changes things.

That attitude gives up a potential edge though. Kickers may not be exciting, but a few extra fantasy points can be the difference between a win and a loss in any given week. It's worth staying vigilant and keeping your lineup stocked with the best possible kicker each and every week.

Here are three top fantasy football kickers to stream in NFL Week 1 that are likely on your waiver wire — owned in less than 60 percent of Yahoo! Fantasy Football public leagues.

3. Matt Prater, Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals

For all of the hype around the Arizona Cardinals' offense, their defense is still a huge question mark after allowing the NFL's seventh-most points per game in 2018. The Detroit Lions don't have an especially exciting offense, so don't expect fireworks, even in the favorable matchup, but they should move the ball enough to spend plenty of time in field goal range during Week 1. With new head coach Kliff Kingsbury likely bringing an up-tempo style to Arizona, we could also see the Lions get a couple more drives than we'd usually expect, potentially creating an extra opportunity or two for Matt Prater, who is owned in 42 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

2. Michael Badgley, Los Angeles Chargers vs Indianapolis Colts

Our seventh-ranked kicker for this week is available in 56 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and there's a lot to like about Michael Badgley here. The Los Angeles Chargers' offense is one of the best in the NFL, and they are 6.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, as they host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. Badgley didn't start for the Chargers until Week 6 in his 2018 rookie campaign, but he was terrific, going 20-for-22 between the regular season and playoffs, knocking down eight of his 10 attempts from 40-plus yards.

1. Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington Redskins

Jake Elliott is the only kicker we're looking at this week that's owned in more than 50 percent of Yahoo! leagues (53%, to be exact), and if he's available in your league, you'll want to grab him. Elliott ranks fourth at the position in our Week 1 fantasy football rankings and with the Philadelphia Eagles sitting as 9.5-point favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook, they're the second-biggest favorites on the slate. This gives them one of the week's highest-implied point totals, since they'll likely spend plenty of time in scoring range against the Washington Redskins.
