The Pittsburgh Steelers are riding high after they remained undefeated with a win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12, but that game also brought a big loss of linebacker Bud Dupree, who suffered a season-ending torn ACL. The edge rusher provided a strong pass-rushing element to one of the NFL's best defenses, and his absence will no doubt impact the Steelers going forward.

However, defensive star T.J. Watt offered an optimistic look at Pittsburgh's defense with Dupree out.

The Defensive Player of the Year favorite has confidence in the Steelers' options behind Dupree, highlighting rookie Alex Highsmith, in particular, as someone who is ready to take on a larger role.

“You have guys like Alex Highsmith who is preparing like he has been a starter this whole time. We have to trust that the coaches are going to put him in the best position, us in the best position, to keep going forward. I have all of the confidence in the world in the guys in this locker room that we are going to be all right.”

Watt isn't alone in his praise of Highsmith, either. Pro Football Focus has given the rookie an overall grade of 81.3 in his small sample of work so far this season.

Pittsburgh's defense has hounded opponents all season, allowing the fewest points (17.1) and third-fewest total yards (298.9) per game. The Steelers are ranked No. 1 in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA metric.

Pittsburgh will face the Washington Football Team in its first game without Dupree. The Steelers are 6.5-point favorites in that matchup.
