As the Detroit Tigers continue their disappointing 2021 MLB season, the club received some great news regarding two of their injured players — utility player Niko Goodrum and catcher Eric Haase. Both players have missed the last week or so with injuries, but it's looking like their return is on the horizon.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Sunday that Goodrum is progressing and could begin his rehab stint with Low-A Lakeland. Meanwhile, Haase will catch for left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd in a rehab game with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday.

Tigers Injury News

Goodrum has been out of Detroit's lineup since suffering a groin strain against the Baltimore Orioles on August 11. This isn't the first time this season that the 29-year-old has landed on the injured list as injuries have held him to just 65 games played this season.

Nevertheless, Goodrum has been bouncing back following a disappointing 2020 campaign. He currently has 6 home runs and 21 RBI on .224/.304/.348 slashing this year.

Meanwhile, Haase hasn't suited up since August 14 after landing on the 10-day IL with an abdominal strain. The fifth-year catcher had finally found himself a spot in the Tigers lineup this season after years of splitting time between the majors and minors. Haase has played 70 games so far this year, registering an impressive 19 HRs and 49 RBI with a .238/.293/.512 slash line.

With a 59-66 record and sitting 11.5 games back of the final American League Wild Card spot, Detroit's path to its first postseason appearance since 2014 will be tough. Even if Goodrum and Haase give the club a boost, the Tigers' +60000 odds to win the 2021 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook signify that their season may as well be as good as over.
