The Detroit Tigers may sit in fourth place in the AL Central, but that's not because of poor bullpen pitching. Detroit's 'pen has been the strongest unit on the roster and ranks third in baseball with a 2.91 ERA.

One member of this staff hasn't been on par with the rest of the arms, and it's resulted in an unfortunate outcome for his future in Detroit.

The Tigers announced late on Monday night that veteran reliever Jacob Barnes was designated for assignment.

Barnes signed as a free agent back in March and hasn't found any groove thus far in 2022. The seven-year veteran owns a disappointing 6.10 ERA through 20.2 innings pitched, striking out just 4.4 batters per nine innings. That's a far cry from his previous career mark of 9.6 strikeouts per nine.

Drew Hutchison and left-hander Tyler Alexander will be added to the active roster in a pair of corresponding moves.

The Tigers look to improve upon their 5-6 record in June after dropping the first of a three-game set with the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Unfortunately, FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds show Detroit as +156 underdogs for Tuesday's tilt.
