The New England Patriots are in a strange position this season, which they are unfamiliar with. They are good enough to compete for the top spot in the AFC East, but the team looks to have too many holes to compete for a Super Bowl. In other words, they are stuck in no man's land, not knowing if they should be playing for this season or next.
What the Patriots should be trying to do is trade wide receiver Mohamed Sanu, so they can get something in return for him before it's too late.
The Patriots traded for Sanu last season, when the team was desperate for help at wide receiver. Now, New England looks to have a surplus of mid-tier receiving talent, with Sanu included. It would make much more sense to give the majority of the snaps to the younger pass catchers, in hopes they can continue to grow.
This means that the nearly 31-year-old Sanu is not likely in the Patriots' future plans. With this being the last season on his contract, New England should try to find a contender that is willing to fork up a favorable draft pick for the veteran receiver.
If the Patriots do not trade him, they'll be left footing the full $6.5 million bill before Sanu likely walks in the offseason. So, it would be better to get something for him while they can.
