The Cleveland Browns were a little overhyped last season, as many predicted them to contend for a Super Bowl, while they failed to even make the postseason. They went through a change of leadership this offseason, while acquiring even more weapons, Now, they have a chance to make a lot of noise this season.

However, there is still one issue the Browns must address. They need to consider trading tight end David Njoku to either gain a contributor for this season or draft assets to continue their build.

News recently came out that Njoku was requesting a trade from the Browns. This isn't too surprising, as Cleveland brought in tight end Austin Hooper this offseason to become the new starter. After missing the majority of last season due to injury, Njoku just wants a chance to prove himself and go out there to compete. After getting moved down the depth chart, he has less of a chance to do so in Cleveland.

The Browns need to be forward-thinking here. Yes, Njoku is a talented, cheap young option for their offense. He also has two years left on his rookie deal, which makes him an incredibly valuable trade asset.

Since Njoku already has expressed his interest to leave the Browns, we can assume he will not re-sign with the team later on. This means that his value is at his highest right now, as a team can trade for him, get two seasons out of him on a rookie deal, then possibly sign him for longer. If the Browns continue to wait, the return on their tight end will only go down.
