Due to a late-season loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, who were essentially playing the concessions workers at wide receiver, the Dallas Cowboys missed out on the playoffs in 2019. After losing some key players this offseason, the Cowboys could once again struggle to reach the top of the NFC East in 2020.

"If you can't beat them, steal their players and hope they have some secrets" —I think that's how the old saying goes. Should the Cowboys struggle again this year, they could make a real splash next offseason by stealing away Jalen Mills in free agency.

Dallas struggled to stop opposing offenses through the air last season, allowing quarterbacks to complete 65.0 percent of their passes (the eighth-highest mark in the NFL). After losing pass rusher Robert Quinn and top cornerback Byron Jones, the Cowboys could get even worse in this category, especially with the division around them improving.

This is where Mills would be a nice addition to the team. Aside from possibly bringing some inside info about Carson Wentz and the Eagles offense, he is also a versatile defensive back. He's not among the league's elite, meaning he should be affordable, but he is a young player that is capable of playing both deep at safety and on the outside at cornerback. That would give the Cowboys the flexibility and creativity they may need.

Mills limited quarterbacks to a 57.4 percent completion rate when they threw at him last season. This included a strong Week 16 game in which Mills and the Eagles held Prescott to a season-low 6.0 yards per pass attempt.

The Eagles have a ton of defensive backs that will be up for new contracts in the 2021 offseason, including Mills, Rasul Douglas, Sidney Jones and Nickell Robey-Coleman.

This means they may not be able to bring Mills back even if they want to, and if that's the case, the Cowboys would be wise to steal him away from their division rivals.
