The Houston Texans enter Week 3 with hopes of improving to 2-0 at home in the young 2021 NFL season. However, this team will be without two important pieces on defense following the latest injury report ahead of Thursday Night Football.

One of the toughest aspects of playing on TNF is a short week of rest for potential injury concerns. That's exactly what happened with the Texans, who are expected to be without safety Justin Reid and linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill against the Carolina Panthers.

Texans News

Both Reid and Grugier-Hill and Reid have been all over the field in Houston's first two games, ranking third and seventh in team tackles, respectively.

Reid may be the more notable of these two names. He's been an everyday starter since Houston drafted him in the third round of the 2018 draft. The fourth-year defensive back owns 42 career starts in 46 games and leads the defense with 2 interceptions early on.

In his first year in Houston, Grugier-Hill has slotted immediately into a starting role. He ranks third on the team with 11 total tackles, including 3 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack.

Houston's defense has played relatively middle of the pack thus far, ranking 13th in points allowed (26.0) and 16th in yards allowed (375.0).

The Texans sit as 7.5-point underdogs in their Thursday Night Football matchup with the Carolina Panthers, according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
