Due to off-the-field issues, former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith has spent time away from football. In fact, he has missed the past two seasons, after totaling 134 tackles and two interceptions in 2018.
His talent is unquestioned, but his future in football is. If he were to return to the NFL, these are three teams where Telvin Smith could head to in free agency.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars
Could there be a sense of loyalty to the team that drafted him? With a full change of regime, the Jaguars could actually be an enticing destination for Smith. It's possible they would give him the best possible deal as well, since they likely know his situation better than anyone else, as well as the person he is. Smith also said that "the day I do decide to call it quits, it will be right here in Duval."
2. Green Bay Packers
In recent press conferences, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has noted that the team needs to get better production out of the inside linebacker position. After an absence in from the NFL, the Packers could give him a short-term, cheap deal in order for him to prove himself and for them to go all-in on a Super Bowl run. Given their current personnel, Smith would be an instant upgrade.
3. Las Vegas Raiders
It's all about who you know in the NFL. For Smith, he knows Gus Bradley, his former head coach, quite well. Bradley was named the new defensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, and they need plenty of help on that side of the ball. Signing Smith in the offseason would be a terrific addition to this team.
