Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could be forced to sit out his team's Week 11 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Bridgewater exited Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers early after suffering a right knee injury.
Bridgewater didn't sustain any serious damage, but his status for Week 11 is still up in the air.
Bridgewater finally regained a starting QB role this year after serving as a backup with the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints over the past few seasons. This year has been middle-of-the-road for Bridgewater. He has thrown 13 touchdowns this season, but he hasn't hit more than two TDs in any game so far. Bridgewater has also accounted for 7 interceptions.
P.J. Walker Fantasy Outlook
P.J. Walker is next up on the Panthers' depth chart following Bridgewater's injury. Walker rose to prominence while playing in the XFL's temporary reboot, leading the league in passing yards (1,338) and TDs (15) as the Houston Roughnecks' QB1 before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walker has an excellent opportunity to let it fly if he gets the start in Week 11. The Panthers rank 11th among teams in total pass attempts this season (339) and 9th in passing yards (2,456). Additionally, the team is 5th in completions (242), showcasing the talent of their wide receivers and QB-friendly nature of the offense. Six different receivers have caught a touchdown for the Panthers this season.
The Panthers' passing game also gets a great matchup in Week 11. The Lions rank 25th in Football Outsiders' defensive DVOA metric. Detroit is also allowing the league's fourth-most points (29.7) per game.
While Walker has only thrown 4 passes for Carolina this season, his XFL numbers signal that he can lead a prolific passing offense. He could do some damage against a weak defense in Week 11. If you're playing in a 2-QB league or are hurting for a QB option, Walker makes for an interesting sleeper option.
