Teams around the league are facing difficult decisions as they begin to trim down their 90-man rosters. Squads will need to be at 53 players heading into the regular season, and some notable names could be cut loose if they don't perform.

One surprising New Orleans Saints veteran may be fighting for his job after a poor Week 1 preseason showing.

Running back Latavius Murray could be on the roster bubble, according to The Athletic's Larry Holder. Murray rushed five times for 6 yards and lost a fumble against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.

It wasn't the strongest start to preseason for Alvin Kamara's presumed backup, and a crowded Saints backfield gives the team other options. New Orleans recently brought in two-time Pro Bowler Devonta Freeman to compete for backup duties. Plus, second-year RB Tony Jones Jr. made a statement by rushing for 82 yards and 1 TD in the first preseason game.

Murray carries a $4.17 million cap hit in 2021, and if the team thinks they can get similar production for less, they could cut the 31-year-old.

The Saints' backup RB competition is one to watch throughout camp and the preseason.
