Steven Gilmore Scouting Report
Steven Gilmore had a major knack for making plays at Marshall. Over his last three years, the CB posted 29 pass breakups, 7 interceptions (including a pick-six) and 2 forced fumbles. Playing 36 games over this span as well, Gilmore is legitimately seasoned prospect, which can't be said for every draft hoepful.
Despite not possessing a huge frame, Gilmore knows to use his physical abilities extremely well. He combines nice speed with great route recognition to help him be a nuisance in the secondary.
Physicality is one thing the younger Gilmore brother is lacking. He has a small build at just 162 pounds, which means bigger players could punish him at the next level, especially in run blocking scenarios. This lack of strength also impacts his ability to bring ball carriers down.
Steven Gilmore NFL Draft Prediction
There's no denying Gilmore made plays at Marshall. Though it appears unlikely he'll be drafted, his production and NFL heritage should help him latch on quickly as a free agent.
The Las Vegas Raiders are on team in desperate need of help in the secondary. This unit is a major work in progress, so they should be happy to add any prospect who can make plays against opposing passing attacks. It's also worth mentioning Las Vegas' strong New England Patriots ties with head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler. Both men know first-hand how important Stephon Gilmore was to those defenses, which could lead to his younger brother getting a shot.
Prediction: Las Vegas Raiders (UDFA signing)
