Steve Wilks' Hire Prompts More Staff Shakeup for 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers acted quickly in finding a replacement for defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans after he took a head coaching gig with the Houston Texans. It took just a week for the 49ers to bring in veteran coach and former Carolina Panther Steve Wilks for the role.

Wilks' hiring has caused a shakeup for the rest of the 49ers' staff, though, unfortunately costing someone their job.

According to NFL insider David Lombardi, San Francisco is not renewing the contract for cornerbacks coach Cory Undlin. He indicates that this move makes sense given Wilks' experience working with defensive backs.

Lombardi also speculates that Daniel Bullocks could be promoted from safeties coach to DB coach.

Wilks spent the first four stops in his NFL tenure as a defensive backs specialist, so he brings a wealth of knowledge managing and coaching the position.
