The Pittsburgh Steelers' main task this offseason will be to decide on a successor at quarterback following Ben Roethlisberger's retirement. Pittsburgh has two internal candidates in Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, the latter of which could become a free agent after operating as QB3 this past year.

It sounds like the Steelers want to see how Haskins develops and give him a chance at the very least to compete for reps in 2022.

Dwayne Haskins Contract

Pittsburgh GM Kevin Colbert said the team plans to tender Haskins "at some point," making it clear they want to retain his services. Colbert also admitted the Steelers will also look at outside options, whether that's via trade or free agency, but Haskins will be key to providing competition.

"Dwayne Haskins came in to get some nice things done throughout the season as a scout team quarterback, he played some in the preseason, and we're excited to see what Dwayne can provide either from a competition (standpoint) or maybe he evolves into a starter."

After some off-field and maturity issues cut Haskins' tenure with Washington short, it appears he's made an impression in Pittsburgh. It's certainly smart for the Steelers to see what they really have in Haskins after he was reduced to mostly scout team work in 2021.

The former first-round pick threw for 2,804 yards, 12 TDs and 14 INTs across 16 games with Washington from 2019-2020. He was cut prior to the end of the 2020 campaign, but landed with Pittsburgh last offseason.

The Steelers seem focused on bringing Haskins back to contend for starting duties with Rudolph. The QB situation remain one to watch once offseason workouts begin.
