There's no denying that the New Orleans Saints head into a pivotal Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers banged up. Running back Alvin Kamara is not expected to play and now scary details have emerged of quarterback Jameis Winston's back injury ahead of kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.

Jameis Winston Injury News

Winston is reportedly set to play with four fractures in his back from L1 down to L4. It's been causing him a ton of pain, but extra padding will be put into place to protect the area. This news comes after Winston practiced in a limited capacity this past week and swore he wasn't going to miss any time.

On the bright side, insider Jeff Duncan reported there is no risk of further damage this time around. Injury concerns have been a concern for Winston as of late. His 2021 season ended after five games due to a torn ACL and he didn't play at all during the preseason in August because of a foot issue.

The health of their starting QB obviously goes a long way in the Saints' goal of becoming a Super Bowl contender this year. New Orleans is looking to capture its eighth consecutive regular season win over the Buccaneers and gain an edge in a NFC South division that looks to be up for grabs early on.

Winston completed 23 of his 34 pass attempts for 269 yards and 2 touchdowns (0 interceptions) in Week 1. He was at the head of a furious 16-point comeback against the Atlanta Falcons. For now, the Saints have moneyline odds set at +124 against the Buccaneers, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
