The New Orleans Saints have a couple of new faces at the wide receiver position this season, but fans are likely most excited about one returning face, instead. Michael Thomas is officially active in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons and will be on the field for the first time since January of 2020.
Michael Thomas Injury Update
Thomas worked hard throughout training camp to best a hamstring injury that popped up in practice a few weeks ago. Of course, the three-time Pro Bowler also missed the entire 2021 season due to an ankle injury. He told reporters on Wednesday that he is "itching very much" to play football again.
Saints fans have seen firsthand how Thomas can change the game when he is at full health. The last time he played in every regular season game was in 2019. That was the season he led the NFL in catches (149) as well as receiving yards (1,725) and was named the AP Offensive Player of the Year.
Quarterback Jameis Winston will now have a full arsenal of weapons to use on Sunday. An arsenal that includes Thomas, rookie Chris Olave and veteran Jarvis Landry at WR. Those three have a shot to run wild against a Falcons team that posted the fourth-worst pass defense DVOA rating in 2021.
New Orleans enters Week 1 as a 5.5-point road favorite against Atlanta and has odds set at -235 on the moneyline, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. Meanwhile, Thomas has odds set at -110 to record over 48.5 receiving yards and odds set at +145 to score a touchdown.
