The New Orleans Saints are off to a solid 3-2 start, but those three wins have come in spite of a terrible performance by the kicking team. Now, the Saints must deal with a disappointing injury update to the team's newest kicker, Cody Parkey.
Parkey injured his groin during pregame warmups before New Orleans' Week 5 victory over the Washington Football Team. While the veteran kicker played through his injuries, and connected on 3-of-5 extra point attempts, the Saints announced his placement on the IR Tuesday afternoon.
Cody Parkey Injury Update
The kicking game has been a disaster in New Orleans this season. Starter and five-year team veteran Wil Lutz began the year on the IR after offseason surgery. New Orleans opted for Aldrick Rosas to begin the year, but Rosas struggled by hitting just 1-of-4 field goals through four games.
Parkey was brought in as a stopgap, but that experiment ended rather swiftly with this latest injury update.
Fortunately for the Saints, this team heads into a Bye Week in Week 6. This could give Lutz enough time to recover from his surgery and be activated in time for Week 7 action, if all goes according to plan.
The Saints rank second-to-last in the NFL in kicking this season, making just 25% of field goal attempts.
