After getting cut by the Detroit Lions in late July, Theo Riddick has officially latched onto a new team, signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Denver Broncos.

The signing comes after Riddick met with just two teams, the Broncos and the New Orleans Saints, and will include $1 million in guaranteed money and an additional $3.3 million in possible incentives.

Riddick joins a backfield headlined by two second-year backs, Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman. The undrafted Lindsay had a phenomenal rookie year, racking up 1,278 yards from scrimmage and 10 total touchdowns. Freeman, a third-round pick in 2018, totaled 593 yards from scrimmage and five touchdowns.

Riddick will likely slot in as the Broncos' third-down back as Denver lacked a true pass-catching back last season. While Lindsay was great last year, he was a bit underwhelming in the receiving department with 35 catches for just 241 yards, and that's where Riddick thrives. He managed 61 catches last season in 14 games and may be able to carve out a useful role in 2019 PPR leagues as long as Joe Flacco sticks around at QB. The aging vet is known for checking down when the deep ball isn't there and Riddick should be in on passing downs this coming season.

So while Riddick is likely only an option in PPR leagues, and a late-round flier at best, he can be a solid bye-week filler in leagues where catches – no matter how many yards they end up producing – are coveted.
