While the MLB may have gone through a brief lull in activity around the new year holidays, the action picked back up this week with a number of lower level signings and acquisitions. One team involved was the Kansas City Royals, who opted to trade veteran infielder Ryan O'Hearn to the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations.
O'Hearn had been designated for assignment by Kansas City on Dec. 28.
Drafted in the 8th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft, O'Hearn's spent the entirety of his career with Kansas City. Unfortunately, the results and output have been disappointing.
The 1B/RF played 342 games for Kansas City across five seasons, but managed just a 219/.293/.390 slash line in that span. He's hit just 38 home runs across more than 1,000 plate appearances.
Baltimore is clearly hopeful the lefty-swinging O'Hearn can find some more power playing at Camden Yards.
