The Kansas City Royals have been missing a part of their starting rotation for over two weeks now as Zack Greinke works his way back from a flexor strain. His return to the major leagues could be on the horizon after a stellar outing during his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers.

Zack Greinke Injury Update

Greinke had no issues shutting down the opposing lineup on Sunday and worked through four perfect innings before giving up a single. He finished the day with 4 strikeouts and zero walks across five shutout innings (49 pitches). Greinke was warming up to pitch the sixth before being removed.

It's a great development for a player in need of a turnaround in 2022. Greinke was sent to the injured list following a string of poor outings. The 38-year-old gave up 12 earned runs over his two most recent starts (7.2 innings pitched) and has seen his ERA on the year balloon to a dismal 5.05 mark.

The Royals signed the former Cy Young winner this past offseason in hopes that he could bring some veteran leadership to the ball club. After all, Greinke posted an 11-6 record in 2021 to go along with a 1.17 WHIP. Another rehab start or two could put him in position to bounce back this summer.

The Royals will keep looking to improve in any way possible as they sit at the bottom of the American League Central with a 20-39 record. Kansas City remains a long shot to win the World Series with odds set at +250000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
