With a 45-59 record and sitting 13.5 games back of the final American League Wild Card spot, it's clear that the 2021 MLB season hasn't been kind to the Kansas City Royals. A lot of their woes have been caused by injuries, including ones suffered by Adalberto Mondesi. He's been on the injured list since June 20 with an oblique strain, however, it's looking like he could be back in Kansas City's lineup sooner than later.

The most recent Mondesi injury update is a promising one for the Royals as the team revealed that the 26-year-old shortstop will begin his rehab assignment Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday. While there's no timetable on when fans can expect to see him back in the majors, it wouldn't be unfathomable to see him back in the Royals lineup sometime in August.

Adalberto Mondesi Injury Update

The hope is that this stint on the injured list will be Mondesi's last for a long time. This is his third time landing on the IL in 2021 alone, which is frustrating considering how he's the type of player who can be a game-changer on any given night.

Mondesi has been limited to just 10 games this season, however, he's demonstrated exactly what he can do in that small sample size. During that span, he recorded 4 home runs and 9 RBIs on a .361/.378/.833 slash line. With Kansas City recording just 4.12 runs per game (24th) this year, it's obvious that the team missed Mondesi in the batter's box. He was also the 2020 MLB stolen bases leader with 24, which shows how he can impact the game both with his bat and when he's eventually on-base.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Royals are tied for having the worst odds to win the 2021 World Series at +50000. With their season essentially being over, Mondesi returning to the lineup would at least help the team end their campaign on a positive note.
