The 2021 season has been a rough one for Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi. In the 10 games he has managed to play this year, he was fantastic, slashing .361/.378/.833, but he has been riddled with injuries outside of that.

Currently on the IL for a left oblique strain, Mondesi is now experiencing trouble with his right oblique, the side that had given him issues earlier in the season. He is dealing with scar tissue in his right oblique which is giving the switch hitter issues in swinging from the left side of the plate.

The Royals plan to have him continue rehab swinging from the right side, and its even being suggested they could bring him back as just a right-handed hitter while the other side gets sorted out.

This is already a lost season for the Royals who sit in last place in the AL Central, so rushing Mondesi back, one of their best players, probably isn't the wisest move. Time will tell if they want to see what they can get out of the 26-year-old shortstop this year, or punt the rest of the season and make sure he's 100 percent healthy for 2022.
