Rockies Trade Rumors: Colorado Halts All Trade Talks Until End of All-Star Break

With a 37-49 record and a Grand Canyon-sized gap between them and the final National League playoff spot (13.0 games), the Colorado Rockies are destined to be sellers ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.
With several expiring contracts and talented players who could help a contending club, there's no doubt that the Rockies could end up being one of the more active teams in the coming weeks. However, any imminent trades will have to be put on pause as The Athletic' Nick Groke reported that the Rockies have halted all trade talk until the MLB All-Star break concludes next week.

Colorado Rockies Trade Rumors
According to Groke, Rockies interim general manager Bill Schmidt has indicated to multiple sources that absolutely no trades will be made until the 2021 MLB regular season resumes on July 15. This news comes on the heels of manager Bud Black shooting down the idea that Colorado would be open to trading right-handed starter German Marquez.
The fact is that Schmidt's plan could end up benefiting the Rockies in the long haul. Once the season resumes, there'll only be about two weeks until the deadline, which means the pressure will be on contenders to make a move. With such a limited window and other teams likely blowing up Colorado's phone, the Rockies could wind up reaping some pretty hefty rewards if everything is successful.
Fortunately, the Rockies have some notable names they can move for a decent return. A starting pitcher like Jon Gray, who is 5-6 with a 3.94 ERA, could add a lot of stability to a contending team's starting rotation. SS Trevor Story is another player whose name has been linked in trade rumors and he could bring the Rockies back some valuable pieces. Story has 11 home runs and 41 RBI while slashing .253/.326/.450 in 2021.
Needless to say, the trade deadline is shaping up to be an exciting time for the Rockies and their fanbase.
