There's no sugarcoating it, the 2022 season has been rough for the Cincinnati Reds. But baseball is a funny game and Cincy just took two of three games from the Pittsburgh Pirates this weekend.
The good news rolls on into Monday with the highly-anticipated return of ace Luis Castillo.
Luis Castillo Injury Update
Reds insider Mark Sheldon reported on Sunday that Castillo is in line to make his first start of the season on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Cincinnati's MLB.com website also lists Castillo as the probable starters, meaning all systems are a go for his return. The 2019 All-Star was sidelined with right shoulder soreness during Spring Training before a placement on the injured list.
Cincinnati's starting rotation is in desperate need of a boost. The rotation ranks dead-last with a putrid 8.54 ERA on the year, and only three starters have a single win to their names thus far.
Castillo's career 3.72 ERA is a far cry from this early team performance, and a chance to get the Reds back on the right track. The hard-throwing righty owns three seasons with sub-3.50 ERAs and has struck out at least 9.2 batters per nine innings in four of his five MLB seasons.
Reds nation can rejoice in the return of their ace. Castillo is slated for an intriguing matchup against Milwaukee Brewers stud Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff is off to a slow start in 2022, but pitched to a 2.56 ERA last year. The over/under in this matchup sits at just 7.5 runs, with -120 odds on the under according to FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
