The Cincinnati Reds and outfielder Nick Castellanos suffered quite the scare on Friday as the 2021 MLB All-Star exited the club's 11-6 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers after his wrist was hit by a pitch. While initial concerns had the team and its fans fearing the worst, the latest injury update should provide everyone with a sense of optimism.
Reds manager David Bell told reporters after the game that Castellanos' wrist was not broken. Bell also said that the news could've been much worse as the ball hit Castellanos "in a spot that it easily could have been broken."
Nick Castellanos Injury Update
There hasn't been any update as to whether or not Castellanos will be good to go for either game against the Brewers this weekend. Nevertheless, hearing that the 29-year-old outfielder is only dealing with some soreness probably has a lot of people breathing a sigh of relief. After all, it's better to lose him for a handful of games rather than needing to place him on the injured list.
Castellanos has been one of baseball's best players this season. He has 18 home runs and 59 RBI through 85 games, putting him on pace to beat his career high of 27 and 101, respectively. That's not even to mention how he leads the National League with a .330 batting average and total bases with 196 while also leading the entire MLB in doubles (29).
Winners of seven of their last 10 games, the Reds still have a lot of work to do before they're treated as World Series contenders. FanDuel Sportsbook has listed their championship odds at +6000, which ranks in the middle of the pack.
