The MLB's official start to the 2022 season is less than a month away, presenting teams with a fresh start and opportunity to begin the long journey towards a potential World Series title.
Unfortunately, the Boston Red Sox are getting the season off on the wrong foot. Once again, starting pitcher Chris Sale is dealing with an injury.
Chris Sale Injury Update
Red Sox executive Chaim Bloom spoke to the media on Wednesday and revealed a new injury for his veteran ace. Bloom explained that Sale is dealing with a stress fracture in his right rib cage and won't be ready for the start of the season.
This is a brutal blow for Boston, especially considering Bloom said it will be "weeks, not days" before Sale can resume throwing.
Red Sox News
Sale has simply not been able to stay on the field as of late. The seven-time All-Star started only nine games last season after a near two-year absence because of Tommy John surgery.
With such an elite offense, Boston's pitching staff was the biggest area of concern a year ago while the team rallied to the ALCS. Red Sox pitchers finished the regular season with a 4.27 ERA, ranking just 15th in the majors. Meanwhile the offense posted a top-five mark of 5.1 runs scored per game.
Boston will hope Sale can get over this latest injury quickly and return to full strength for the remainder of 2022. Currently, the Red Sox hold +1800 odds to win the World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
