Even after a flurry of offseason moves, the Texas Rangers figured to still be another year or two away from seriously competing. That didn't undercut the importance of taking stock of the roster surrounding Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.

Jonah Heim has been one of the best storylines of the surrounding roster, playing himself into an unofficial "All-Star snub" status. Unfortunately, Heim was unusually unavailable due to illness on Tuesday. A recent update from Rangers insider Jeff Wilson revealed the Rangers avoided a concerning situation with their young catcher.

Although Heim was unavailable with this illness, he was still present at the ballpark. Wilson explained this should rule out the possibility of COVID and a COVID-IL stint, because Heim wouldn't have been present if that was the case.

It's unclear if Heim will be back in the lineup on Wednesday, but signs point to him missing only a handful of games.

Heim has been a pleasure to watch in his third MLB season, and the first full campaign of his career. The 27-year-old catcher is slashing .266/.318/.477 with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs. Heim's 12 home runs ranks third amongst backstops across the league.

The Rangers look to take a rubber game matchup against the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday, entering that clash as -198 runline favorites, according to MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
