Thanksgiving Day 2021 treated the Las Vegas Raiders well in the form of a 36-33 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Unfortunately, superstar tight end Darren Waller exited the game with a knee injury.
The good news is that Waller's situation isn't as dire as some feared. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Friday the pass-catcher suffered a strained IT band.
Darren Waller Injury Update
Waller actually exited the game twice with his injury, so it's encouraging that he isn't dealing with anything serious. He finished the game with two catches on five targets for 33 yards.
Overall, Waller leads all Raiders with 84 targets this season, while his receptions (64) and receiving yards (643) rank second. If he winds up missing any time, there's no doubt that his absence will be felt.
If Waller can't play, third-year tight end Foster Moreau is next on the depth chart. He's been decent in a limited role this year, catching 12-of-19 targets for 135 yards and three TDs.
Fortunately, the Raiders have a 10-day break until they face the Washington Football Team on Sunday, Dec. 5. The hope is that the few extra days of rest will make the difference for Waller.
