If you're familiar with sports, you know just how superstitious athletes can be. When something is going well, they don't want to put too much attention towards it in case they jinx something.

Well, the Pittsburgh Pirates managed to jinx themselves right at the start of the 2021 MLB Season. After defeating the 5-3 Chicago Cubs on Opening Day, the Pirates sent out a tweet, saying, "We may never lose another game again."

Since that tweet losing is, well, all the Pirates have done. They've lost their last five games in a row and are the only team without at least a .500 record in the NL Central.

During their five-game skid, the Pirates have been outscored 39-12, with 25 of those runs coming in their last two games against the Cincinnati Reds. Overall, the Pirates are allowing 7.00 runs per game on the season, which is the second-highest average in the MLB. Making life harder for themselves, they're also only scoring 2.83 runs per game (T-30th).

There's still a lot of baseball left to play this season, so maybe the Pirates can figure out a way to un-jinx themselves. At the same time, FanDuel Sportsbook has given them the worst World Series odds in the league at +18000. So, maybe the Pirates really are this bad and their first game was just an anomaly.
