The Philadelphia Phillies currently own the longest postseason drought in the National League and will need to improve at the plate if they want any shot of changing that. Fans will be excited to hear that the team has been linked to a slugging outfielder from the American League in trade rumors.
Phillies Trade Rumors
Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that the Phillies have had talks with the Tampa Bay Rays centered around Austin Meadows. No one truly knows where things stand right now, but the fact that interest has been shown is quite a big deal. Philadelphia could use another big bat in 2022.
Meadows is a great trade target because he is only 26 years old and under team control through the 2024 season. He also owns a career slash line of .260/.333/.489. Meadows is coming off a season in which he scored 79 runs, smacked 27 home runs and racked up 106 RBI in 142 games played.
Of course, Philadelphia already made a step in the right direction by signing Kyle Schwarber in free agency to play left field and designated hitter. The Phillies have also been linked to free agent outfielder Nick Castellanos and reports claim talks between the two sides have been intensifying.
Improving at the plate would give the Phillies come much-needed firepower in a crowded NL East. Manager Joe Girardi's squad has odds set at +600 to win its first divisional title since 2011, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Philadelphia also has odds set at +2000 to earn the NL pennant.
