The Philadelphia Phillies are on an absolute tear to start the season. They've come out of the gates at 5-1, while nobody else in the NL East has managed a winning record.
And now they're finally starting to get the respect they deserve from ESPN's MLB power rankings.
Heading into Opening Day, the Phillies didn't even crack to top half of the MLB, checking in at No. 16. Now after one week of action, they've jumped up to 11.
Fans in Philly may think they deserve an even bigger jump, but it's hard not to feel good about this one. Moving up five spots vaulted them past the Washington Nationals, and they even jumped the Chicago White Sox, who checked in at No. 7 before the season.
The Phillies still haven't passed the Atlanta Braves or New York Mets, however. But with back-to-back road series against those two teams in their next six games, they will have the opportunity to solidify their status as the top team in the division.
FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds still have the Phillies as +480 underdogs to win the NL Central in 2021.
