The Philadelphia Phillies received a scare earlier this week when outfielder Brandon Marsh injured his knee against the Cincinnati Reds. Unfortunately, the Phillies revealed on Thursday that Marsh is expected to miss some time, resulting in their adding another veteran outfielder to the roster.

Phillies Roster News

The Phillies have announced that they have claimed Bradley Zimmer off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. To make room for Zimmer's addition, Philadelphia has placed Marsh on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 17) while Bryce Harper has been moved over to the 60-day IL.

Spending his first five MLB seasons in Cleveland, Zimmer was traded to the Blue Jays back in April. Most of his playing opportunities came off the bench, resulting in two home runs, three RBIs and a putrid .105/.209./.237 slash line through 76 at-bats.

Nevertheless, it's important to note that Zimmer has played a total of 2,155.2 innings in the outfield at the Major League level, tallying a .995 fielding percentage with only three errors.

Brandon Marsh Injury Update

As mentioned before, Marsh is expected to miss at least the next week and a bit due to a left knee bruise and left ankle sprain. With his IL placement being retroactive to Wednesday, the soonest he can return is next weekend when the Phillies begin a three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, Aug. 26.

Marsh's injury comes soon after his arrival in the City of Brotherly Love. The Los Angeles Angels traded him to the Phillies back at the trade deadline for catcher Logan O'Hoppe.

The 24-year-old has played 12 games in a Phillies uniform thus far, batting .250 while recording eight hits, two doubles, two RBIs and a pair of walks. Hopefully, he can pick up from where he left off sooner than later.
