Julian Edelman was the MVP of Super Bowl LIII with the New England Patriots, but injuries limited him to just six games in 2020.
Julian Edelman Released
On Monday, the Patriots announced that they have officially released veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman, who ranks second in team history in receptions, fourth in receiving yards, ninth in receiving touchdowns.
The Patriots terminated his contract following a failed physical, and he faces a difficult recovery after undergoing knee surgery in October. ESPN’s Mike Reiss — who covers the Patriots — reports that Edelman has been mulling retirement and that this could be a precursor to that announcement.
Of course, Tom Brady may try to convince his old friend to join him in Tampa Bay. He did that with Rob Gronkowski last season, and the Buccaneers have a need at wide receiver with Antonio Brown still unsigned. There’s no guarantee that Edelman's knee would hold up, but teaming up with Brady and Gronkowski to win another championship would be a poetic ending to his career.
Signing with the Buccaneers would definitely give him another shot at a title: They’re currently listed at +900 to win Super Bowl LVI on FanDuel Sportsbook.
