The 2022 Senior Bowl is going down on Saturday, Feb. 5, giving scouts and fans alike a chance to look at college football's prospects ahead of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Carolina Panthers — who have the No. 6 pick at the draft — will likely be paying close attention to the Senior Bowl, especially with reports linking them to an exciting quarterback prospect.
Panthers NFL Draft
According to ProFootballTalk, Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett has a lengthy relationship with Panthers head coach Matt Rhule. The two first met when Pickett considered playing college football for Temple, who had Rhule as the coach, but the former opted to play for Pittsburgh instead.
Pickett told the Charlotte Observer that he still has a great relationship with Rhule and even shared a conversation with him ahead of the Senior Bowl.
"Talking to all the players that [Rhule's] coached when I was thinking about committing, that’s really all it’s about. How great of a guy he is and how hard they play for him."- Kenny Pickett
Carolina rolled with a quarterback combination of Sam Darnold, Cam Newton and P.J. Tucker during the 2021 NFL season, resulting in a 5-12 finish.
Meanwhile, Pickett is seen as one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound gunslinger had a breakout collegiate season last fall, completing 334-of-497 passing attempts for 4,319 yards and 42 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
Some might think that it might be too early to take Pickett at No. 6, but the Panthers should do it if they think he's their guy since he probably won't be around at their next pick (No.106).
The 2022 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 28 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
