San Diego Padres right-handed starter Yu Darvish has been sidelined for the last week or so with a hip injury. Not only did it force him to miss the 2021 MLB All-Star Game, but it forced the Padres to put him on the 10-day injured list back on July 11. Fortunately, it's looking like the injury is a thing of the past judging by the great news that San Diego received on Friday.

Darvish's placement was retroactive to July 9, which means that he's eligible for reinstatement on Monday — just in time for the start of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. And the Padres are indeed planning to start Darvish against the Braves.

Yu Darvish Injury Update

The bad news is that Darvish hasn't pitched well against the Braves in the past. Through four career starts against Atlanta, he's posted a 0-3 record with a 6.62 ERA and 1.925 WHIP. In fact, the Braves are just one of four teams that the veteran righty has yet to defeat in his MLB career.

Regardless of his past woes against Atlanta, the Padres will be happy to have Darvish back in the rotation. He's 7-3 through 18 starts this season and has pitched to a 3.09 ERA, 1.000 WHIP and 10.7 strikeouts per 9 IP. Considering how San Diego is 54-40 currently in possession of the final National League Wild Card spot, Darvish's return couldn't have happened at a better time.

At + 850 odds, the Padres are tied with the Chicago White Sox for third-best odds to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Getting a healthy Darvish back on the mound will go a long way when it comes to strengthening those odds.
