The Baltimore Orioles are in the middle of a rebuild, but it is important for the team to see what they have in their young players on the roster. The Orioles did get some good news as slugging outfielder Anthony Santander is expected to be activated from the injured list.

Anthony Santander Injury Update

Santander is likely going to back with the team before the start of Baltimore's three-game series against the Washington Nationals this weekend. The team optioned outfielder Ryan McKenna down to Triple-A following Thursday's game, which means there is now an open spot on the roster.

The 26-year-old Santander was placed on the IL after he suffered a sprained ankle back in April. Santander was off to a rough start posting a slash line of .196/.230/.321 and hitting two home runs in his first 16 games played. However, he can turn things around if he finds the form he showed just last year.

In 2020, Santander was one of the Orioles' best hitters and ended the season with a .261/.315/.575 slash line in 37 games played. He also hit 11 home runs and racked up 32 RBIs during that span. His improvement could give Baltimore an intriguing outfield moving forward as he joins Austin Hays and Cedric Mullins.

Santander is controlled through the 2024 season. He could be a big piece to the Orioles turnaround assuming he can succeed at the plate again.
