Orioles Get Devastating John Means Injury Update

The beginning of the 2022 MLB season has been rough for the Baltimore Orioles as they sit dead last in the AL East Division with a 5-9 record. Unfortunately, things have gotten worse for the club due to the latest update on John Means.

The Orioles placed Means on the 60-day injured list on April 17 due to him dealing with an elbow injury. Things have since taken a turn for the worse, with the 28-year-old southpaw releasing a statement on Saturday that he must undergo Tommy John surgery.

Means stated in his Twitter statement that "multiple MRIs" have shown that he needs the likely season-ending surgery. He added that he's "disappointed, but more motivated than ever" to get back on the mound.

Many medical experts say that recovery from Tommy John surgery could take anywhere from nine months to a year. Everyone who undergoes the surgery is different, so Means' eventual recovery progress will dictate when we'll see him in an in-game scenario.

Means' injury comes after he had a decent start to the 2022 campaign. Although he didn't get a decision in either of his two starts, his 3.38 ERA in 8.0 innings pitched put him on pace for his best season yet.

The Orioles will begin their Means-less era on Saturday night when they continue their road series against the Los Angeles Angeles. It's going to be another uphill battle for the O's, with FanDuel Sportsbook listing them as the +225 moneyline underdog.
