It feels like Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers have been the perennial favorites to win the NFL's MVP Award for years now. However, the opening odds to win the 2019-20 NFL MVP Award signal that there might have been a changing of the guard.

After taking home 2018-19 MVP honors, Patrick Mahomes (+600) is favored to repeat, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

It's no surprise that Mahomes is the favorite, as the Kansas City Chiefs' superstar QB posted one of the most prolific seasons in NFL history in his first year as a starter. However, Mahomes might be without Tyreek Hill due to the Pro Bowl wide receiver's legal issues, something that could really hurt the reigning MVP's 2019 production.

Andrew Luck has the second-best odds (+900) to win the NFL MVP with the top five rounded out by the usual suspects in Brees (+1000), Brady (+1000) and Rodgers (+1200). All four QBs will likely be the maestro of an extremely productive offense in 2019, so it wouldn't be a shock if any of those took home the award.

However, it is a bit of a surprise to see Baker Mayfield with the sixth-best odds (+1500) to win the MVP. The Browns' offense could put up huge numbers with stars like Odell Beckham Jr. and Kareem Hunt now in Cleveland, but the second-year QB will have to be vastly better than his rookie campaign to ultimately be in contention for the award.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Garroppolo (+4000) is an interesting dark-horse candidate. The San Francisco 49ers are arguably the most improved team in the NFL, and if Jimmy G leads them to the postseason, he could find himself in the MVP conversation.

While Mahomes is the favorite to win the NFL MVP, the last player to win back-to-back awards was Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009. The MVP race is sure to be a hot topic of conversation from now until the NFL Playoffs, especially with so many viable candidates to win the award this season.
