Fewer teams have played better than the Oakland Athletics during the 2021 MLB season. After starting the campaign 1-7, the A's won 13 games in a row before losing to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Now, their record is 14-8, putting them in the top spot of the AL West.
Fortunately for Athletics fans, their team is getting noticed by experts around the baseball world. Last week, they were ranked No. 15 in MLB.com's power rankings. However, in the latest edition released on Monday, the A's have vaulted up to No. 2.
The Athletics are by far the highest-ranked AL West team on the MLB power rankings, with the Houston Astros coming in at No. 14, the second-highest in the division.
All things considered, the A's have been a pretty balanced team this season. They're scoring an average of 4.59 runs per game (11th) while allowing 4.68 (22nd). Matt Olson and Jed Lowrie have been really driving Oakland's offense, recording 17 RBIs apiece. Not to be outdone is LF Mark Canha, who has a slash line of .406/.442/.848.
If the Athletics can continue their play, there's no reason why they can't have more success this season. As it stands, they have +2200 odds to win the World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
