It's rare in today's game to see a pitcher completely dominate the way New York Mets' ace Jacob deGrom has so far this season. He is shutting down opposing hitters left and right in every start as he remains the heavy favorite to take home the NL Cy Young award following the All-Star break.
The Mets' No. 1 starter leads all pitchers with odds set at -1000 to win the Cy Young, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Brandon Woodruff and Kevin Gausman continue to be in a distant second place with odds set at +1500 despite the fact that both pitchers have an ERA of 2.06 or less and a WHIP of 0.82.
That just speaks to how well deGrom is pitching this year. He leads all of baseball with a 1.08 ERA and has posted a minuscule 0.54 WHIP through his first 15 starts. The 33-year-old ace owns a 7-2 record in 2021 and has racked up a NL-leading 146 strikeouts across 92.0 innings pitched. His consistency is a major reason why the Mets currently lead the NL East division by 3.5 games.
These odds may change a bit as the season rolls on, but it is unlikely that anyone will catch up to deGrom with the way he is pitching. Here is how the rest of the odds shake out for the NL Cy Young winner.
2021 NL Cy Young Odds
1. Jacob deGrom (-1000)
2. Brandon Woodruff (+1500)
3. Kevin Gausman (+1500)
4. Zach Wheeler (+1800)
5. Corbin Burnes (+2000)
6. Yu Darvish (+2500)
7. Walker Buehler (+3500)
8. Max Scherzer (+3500)
9. Freddy Peralta (+5000)
10. Trevor Rogers (+5000)
