NHC Horse Racing Picks for Sunday, 3/12/23

The final day of the 2023 National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) in Las Vegas is Sunday. The remaining players have all won at least $10,000 and will play down to a final table with the winner taking home nearly $750,000. The final table contestants will make picks from seven Mandatory races, and here are three picks from those races.
As always, check the programs for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.
(I may reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 10 at Gulfstream is a Maiden Special Weight for older fillies and mares going 1-mile on the turf. Late developing War Princess (2/1) is ridden by leading jockey Luis Saez for top trainer Todd Pletcher. She's the top pick at numberFire, finished third here in January and lost by a nose last month with an improved speed figure (85). She's the most likely horse to break through from a suspect group.
2. One Silk Stocking and Vantastic, Race 5
FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 5/1

Race 5 at Santa Anita is an Allowance race for older horses at 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf. The tepid favorite is Yeng Again (7/2) with top turf rider Umberto Rispoli. But the numberFire data projects a stronger stretch run from One Silk Stocking (6/1) after he won an Allowance race here in December and finished a very close fourth in a Grade 3 race last month.
3. Queen Ofthe Temple and Buzz of New York, Race 7
FanDuel Racing Odds: 7/2 and 6/1

Race 7 at Santa Anita is the $100,000 Grade 3 Santa Ana Stakes for older fillies and mares going the classic 1 1/4 miles on the downhill turf. There are nine runners and the numberFire algorithm picks Queen Ofthe Temple (7/2) to win with the meet's top jockey Juan Hernandez riding.
Australia Mia (3/1) is a challenger with leading jockey Frankie Dettori riding. So is Buzz of New York (6/1) with terrific turf jockey Umberto Rispoli up. Buzz won last out as the heavy favorite here just a week ago going 1-mile and now stretches out. She has finished first or second in her last five starts.
