Christmas could not have gone worse for the Denver Broncos. Not only did they get blown out 51-14 by the Los Angeles Rams, but defender Randy Gregory lost his cool after the final whistle and got into an altercation with Rams guard Oday Aboushi, leading to a one-game suspension.
However, the NFL has announced a major change to the punishments for both players involved.
Appeals officers Derrick Brooks and James Thrash have decided to rescind the suspensions for Gregory and Aboushi. Instead, the former will be fined $50,000 for his actions and the latter is out $12,000.
This is quite the turn of events for Denver. Gregory could've easily missed the team's Week 17 game for starting the fight, but instead he'll only have to pay a sizable fine.
Though the Broncos have been eliminated from playoff contention, they certainly don't want to end the year on a sour note. Having Gregory on the field is a major plus, especially considering the wave of season-ending injuries they've dealt with. The veteran pass rusher has also struggled with his own health in 2022, so he could use any live reps he can get before the offseason.
Denver will now prepare for its Week 17 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs with Gregory on board. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds project the Broncos as 12.5-point road underdogs in that divisional contest.
