The NBA MVP race has taken a big turn following news of Kevin Durant's knee injury. Durant has been ruled out for the next 4-6 weeks, knocking off the co-frontrunner for the award and opening the door for new contenders to work their way up the leaderboard.
Durant's injury caused him to fall from +200 odds last week to +1400, and simultaneously helped other players' chances.
The Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo (+390) has seen his odds rise in the aftermath. Milwaukee buried the Golden State Warriors 119-99 on Jan. 13, and Bucks superstar's performance helped him close the gap on Stephen Curry (+140), who disappointed in that outing.
Last year's regular season MVP Nikola Jokic (+600) had his odds improve as well this week. The Denver Nuggets star leads nearly every meaningful efficiency metric while carrying the short-handed Nuggets to an above .500 record.
