After a tumultuous ride with the New York Mets, first baseman Dominic Smith has found a new home. The Washington Nationals announced Tuesday they reached a one-year deal with the former highly touted prospect.

Smith was once rated as the No. 2 overall prospect in New York's minor leagues.

Drafted No. 11 overall back in the 2013 June Amatuer Draft, Smith quickly rose the ranks of New York's farm system. Not only did he crack the top two of New York's prospect list, but Smith even enjoyed a breakout campaign with New York in 2019. He smacked 11 home runs and slashed .282/.355/.525 in 89 games that year.

The only issue? Pete Alsono hit a league-leading 53 home runs the same year and completed his stranglehold over the first base position.

Smith was unable to recreate his 2019 success before the Mets ultimately moved on. He'll get a shot at redemption with the Nationals, who take a one-year flyer on a former first-round draft pick.
